GOPIP reports 8% housing dip and about 400 fewer jobs in Wapello County, update says

Marc Roe of the Greater Ottumwa Partnership for Industrial Progress (GOPIP) told the Wapello County Board of Supervisors on June 16 that several local economic indicators have moved since last year.
Roe said the housing market in the county has declined by about 8% compared with the same period last year and the county has approximately 400 fewer jobs than a year ago, which he attributed to layoffs. He reported that unemployment is down compared with last year and that new business growth is about 1.8%. Roe also noted that Vogel Heights, a local housing development, has sold more than half of its units and that the community event "Lemonade Day" generated donations returned to the community.
The update was presented as an informational briefing to the board; no action was tied to the report during the meeting.
