The Pocahontas School District PPC committee voted to recommend a one-time $1,500 compensation payment to all contracted district employees.
Staff introduced the resolution and said the payment would be issued on a single compensation check to certified and classified staff as recognition for their efforts. “We’re going to ask the school board to authorize additional compensation of $1,500,” the staff member said, adding that the intent is to pay only employees who are under contract at the time payment is made.
Committee members asked about timing and whether the payment would replace previously discussed spring bonuses. Staff responded that the funds for this $1,500 payment come from a different pot and that no firm decision has been made about a spring bonus. Staff said the district will aim to pay as close to early or mid-December as possible but reserved Dec. 19 as the latest date in the resolution.
A motion to recommend the compensation resolution was made, seconded and approved by the committee; members agreed the item should be forwarded to the full board for final action. The staff member noted the practical caveat that employees who resign before the payment date would not receive the $1,500 payout under the resolution’s language.
Next steps: the committee will forward the resolution to the board for consideration at its next meeting and staff will work to finalize timing and administrative details for payroll.
