Ashley Roger, a St. Francis resident, urged the council to consider installing public Level 2 electric vehicle chargers around the city so renters and people without the option to install home chargers have reliable access. Roger noted that home Level 2 installations typically range from about $1,000 to $2,250 with equipment and electrical work included and argued public chargers support equitable EV adoption and local commerce.
City staff acknowledged residents had discussed charging when the municipal building was constructed but said the city did not install charger infrastructure then because of pricing concerns. Staff and Paul (a city staff member) said the Highway 47 reconstruction and upcoming utility projects present a plausible opportunity to add charging infrastructure and that state and federal grant programs exist to offset installation costs. Staff said they would look into options and bring more information back to council.
No formal charge-installation decision or funding allocation was made at the June 15 meeting.
