The Newcastle Select Board on Feb. 9 considered three candidates for the town fish committee and voted to appoint Ezra Beaver.
Board members described Mr. Beaver as a recent (2023) arrival with experience in environmental science and practical local knowledge of fish harvesting. Roger Wilcox, a longtime resident and member of the finance committee, and Kathy Hughes, a seasonal resident transitioning toward year-round residency, were also discussed as interested volunteers. Several board members said they wanted to keep contact information for all interested residents and consider them for other committees when openings arise.
A Select Board member moved to nominate Ezra Beaver to the fish committee; another member seconded the motion and the board approved the appointment. During the discussion the board asked that Mr. Beaver visit a future meeting to introduce himself and discuss revenue and expenses relevant to the committee. The appointment term was discussed as ending June 30, 2028 (described in meeting discussion).
