Hoskins trustees approve 4% wage increase, OK fundraiser license and name NNSWC representative

The Village of Hoskins Board of Trustees voted Jan. 13 to raise village wages by 4% across the board after reviewing employee evaluations in executive session.
Trustee James Miller moved the wage increase and Trustee Tyler Classen seconded; the motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote of the four trustees present: James Miller, Kris Thies (presiding), Tyler Classen and Devin Pekny. The board had gone into executive session at 7:10 p.m. to review evaluations and returned to open session at 7:22 p.m. before the wage vote.
The board also approved a Special Designated License for the Hoskins Q125 Park Fundraiser ("Pizza, Puzzle & Chug") scheduled for Jan. 24 at the Hoskins Community Center. Trustee Tyler Classen moved to approve the permit; Trustee James Miller seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Trustee Tyler Classen volunteered to serve as the village's representative on the Northeast Nebraska Solid Waste Coalition (NNSWC) and Trustee Devin Pekny volunteered to serve as the alternate. The board read and approved Resolution 2026-01 formally naming the representative and alternate; Trustee James Miller moved to approve the resolution and Trustee Devin Pekny seconded. The resolution passed on a unanimous roll call.
On routine administrative items the board voted to leave the Community Center rent and the municipal fee schedule unchanged after their annual reviews. The board also approved a bank resolution from Elkhorn Valley Bank to remove Trustee James Miller from the bank signature card and add Trustee Kris Thies.
Village staff reported several operational items: the village completed and filed an audit waiver for fiscal year 2024–25 and renewed two certificates of deposit at Elkhorn Valley Bank for nine months. Staff are arranging a meeting with a Rural Board to review an interlocal agreement. A blood drive is set for Jan. 15; the parish asked for public input on park equipment and staff expect progress this month on erecting a park shelter and soliciting bids for 2026 street repairs.
Staff reported that the village's December monthly water test detected coliform. According to the staff report, the village is resubmitting samples and taking the precautions outlined by the State. The village also accepted a donated city truck from Pierce Telephone for $2 and has attached a new snow plow for snow removal.
Trustee Devin Pekny moved and Trustee Tyler Classen seconded approval of the bills presented; the motion passed on a unanimous roll call. The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 2, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
