Hoskins trustees approve permits, fireworks sale agreement and accept park grant

At its May 4 meeting the Hoskins Board of Trustees approved multiple permits and an agreement for fireworks sales, deferred a demolition permit and postponed one building permit; trustees also noted a $5,000 park grant and several maintenance updates.
The Village of Hoskins Board of Trustees approved a set of routine permits and agreements and recorded several community updates at its May 4, 2026 meeting.
On motions that passed by unanimous roll call (five trustees present), the board:
- Approved a building permit for 206 S Spencer (listed as John Obermeyer, Daycare). Motion by Trustee Sarah Kimmel; Trustee Tyler Classen seconded.
- Removed the demolition permit for 113 E 1st Street from the agenda until a permit is provided. Motion by Trustee Tyler Classen; Trustee James Miller seconded.
- Reviewed and accepted the Nebraska Department of Transportation Lane Mile Report with no changes. Motion by Trustee James Miller; Trustee Sarah Kimmel seconded.
- Approved an Agreement for Sale of Fireworks with the Hoskins Fire Department. Motion by Trustee Tyler Classen; Trustee Devin Pekny seconded.
- Approved payment of submitted bills. Motion by Trustee Sarah Kimmel; Trustee James Miller seconded.
A building permit for 305 S Main (applicant Lisa Krause) was postponed because no permit had been submitted; Trustee Sarah Kimmel moved to postpone and Trustee Tyler Classen seconded.
Board members also heard community and staff updates: the Norfolk Area Community Foundation awarded $5,000 to the Hoskins Park Renovation project; cleanup week resulted in six full roll-offs with assistance from Trinity school children; Norfolk Dispatch is programming siren tests to occur the first and third Tuesday each month from April through September; April coliform tests were reported as satisfactory; and Solar Trafficam speed-sign units were purchased for Main Street and are being installed. Other maintenance work included installation of a new garage door on the maintenance building, moved trees and two additional picnic tables at Willis Street Park, and discussion of culvert and sidewalk repairs on the park's west side.
The Board adjourned at 7:00 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for June 1, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
