Adair County supervisors approve $475,159.38 in claims, award $660,777 bridge contract and temporarily assign auditor duties

At its June 9 meeting, the Adair County Board of Supervisors approved claims totaling $475,159.38 and signed off on several administrative and infrastructure measures.
Claims and fund breakdown: On a motion by Wedemeyer, seconded by Baier, the board approved a claims list totaling $475,159.38. The claims covered multiple funds including the general fund, rural services, secondary road, local option sales tax, NW Wind Farm capital project and the county insurance trust. The claims listing presented vendor payments and payroll-related items and included a detailed fund distribution showing $297,167.23 charged to secondary road and $67,987.98 to the NW Wind Farm capital project.
Temporary auditor assignment and permit: The board moved (Hoadley/Baier) to assign Auditor duties temporarily to Deputy Auditor Timber Woosley effective June 5, 2026, until a county auditor is appointed and qualified on June 17, 2026. The board also approved a fireworks permit application for Top Notch Fireworks (Brandon Vonk) for July 18, 2026.
Bridge contract and funding agreement: County Engineer Nick Kauffman presented a bid award recommendation for the W36 Lincoln Bridge Project. The board approved and signed a contract with Cohron & Son Inc. in the amount of $660,777.65; Kauffman noted this bid was roughly 2.5% lower than the county had projected. The board also approved and signed a Hungry Canyons funding agreement for the W26 Prussia Culvert Project.
Engineer report: Kauffman updated supervisors that the county received its final FEMA payment and is awaiting the related audit, that deck work was poured on the North 26 project and that crews will move to the Harrison 18 bridge next. He said preconstruction meetings had occurred for the Rose Acres and Casey exit project and that work is expected to begin in June with the goal of completion before “Casey Fun Day” in July.
All motions were recorded as approved; the bridge contract vote was taken as a roll call (all aye). The board adjourned at 9:47 a.m.
