Commissioners set monthly department budget review schedule; clerk outlines jury-trial logistics

Commissioners agreed on Oct. 25 to set a recurring monthly review of department budgets on the third commission meeting of each month. Staff presented two reporting formats and asked the commission to choose the level of detail it preferred; commissioners discussed threshold levels (for example, 5% or 10% over budget) that would trigger further review.
"If the department budget doesn't have any line items that are over, then we just say we're on track for the year so far," Commissioner Vermaud said, describing the intention behind regular reviews. The commission asked staff to refine a template for department heads and scheduled time for that review at future meetings.
County clerk staff reported logistical plans for a 10-day jury trial, including use of the fairgrounds for the first day, state reimbursement for juror mileage and per diem, and expected overtime costs for county staff. The clerk also announced the retirement of deputy Pamela Risenauer after 12 years of service and thanked her for her work.
The commission approved minutes from Oct. 3, 2025 and completed consent items before adjourning.
