North Penn SD weighs temporary modular classrooms at Oak Park while enrollment study proceeds

"We have over 50 modular classrooms in the school district," Dr. Bower said, framing modulars as a longstanding, imperfect solution. He described leased units at Oak Park that became "extremely dilapidated" and were removed because repair costs were too high.
The district is conducting a demographic enrollment and long-range facilities study, awarded through an RFP, to map where student growth is expected and what permanent construction might be needed. "We're in the middle of a facilities and demographic enrollment study to look at trends across the school district," Dr. Bower said, adding that township officials are being consulted so municipalities can coordinate permitting and planning.
District leaders said adding permanent classrooms before the study concludes risks misallocating resources: building in the wrong location could leave some schools overcapacity and others underused. The study could also prompt conversations about attendance boundaries; speakers noted that talk of "redistricting" is premature and would only proceed after data and community engagement are complete.
No formal action was reported during the Superintendent Live session. Board members and district staff will review the study's findings when available; any decisions on modular installation, permanent construction or boundary changes will follow the district’s standard public process and board agenda timelines.
Next steps: the district will complete the demographic study, coordinate with municipal permitting officials, and bring options to the school board for formal consideration.
