Council rezones 909 Blackstone Ave to MM-1 after plan commission recommendation

Planner Doug told the council the building at the corner of Blackstone and Arcadian has been subdivided into smaller spaces and contains more office-oriented and light-business uses than the heavy-industrial zoning allows. The MM-1 district preserves industrial uses but allows lighter industrial and some commercial activities that better match the building’s current occupancy. The plan commission recommended approval.
No members of the public spoke at the hearing. Council members asked clarifying questions about where similar rezones have occurred; staff noted the MM-1 district was created in recent years and was used on Badger Drive for comparable properties.
Alderman Eric Payne moved to adopt the plan commission’s recommendation; Alderman Wells seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
