Waukesha council amends zoning-contract to add subdivision-code rewrite

The Waukesha Common Council voted unanimously to amend its consulting contract with Hauseel Lagene Associates LLC so the firm will also rewrite the city’s subdivision and planning code alongside the ongoing zoning-code overhaul.
Jennifer, a planning staff member, told the council the zoning rewrite (chapter 22) is already underway and that adding chapter 23, the subdivision and planning code, would allow the two companion chapters to be revised together. She said the amendment will be paid from the balance of budgeted ARPA funds and some planning-consulting funds for 2025, noting the project is currently running slightly under budget.
Supporters argued there are practical advantages to using the same consultant for both chapters because the subdivision rules and zoning code must work together. Alderson Moulson moved to approve the contract amendment; Alderman Wells seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The council did not set a new completion date during the discussion. Staff said they expect the combined rewrite to produce a more consistent regulatory framework for property division and land-use controls and will return with further updates as work proceeds.
