The Las Vegas recommending committee recommended approval of a second amendment to the Summerland West development agreement between the city and the Howard Hughes Corporation, staff said.
Seth T. Floyd introduced the item and explained the bill would ratify the second amendment pursuant to Nevada Revised Statutes chapter 278. Peter Loenstein provided the staff report and said the amendment follows prior city-council approvals. Stephanie Gronower, representing the applicant Howard Hughes, attended and said she was present to answer questions.
Councilwoman Cara Kelly praised the negotiated agreement and staff work, calling the project an example of a productive public-private partnership. "Summerland and the Howard Hughes Corporation don't just get what they want," Kelly said, adding she appreciated staff diligence in arriving at an agreement that "works for both sides."
A committee member moved to approve the bill and the motion carried unanimously. Staff noted the development agreement had been approved by city council on June 3 and that the ordinance follows the ministerial step under state law; dates for final adoption were discussed in the meeting.
