Police Chief David Pernice told the Borough Council on June 25 that he had been coordinating with neighboring departments and county detectives to ensure coverage for the French Creek Festival and was updating departmental policies.
Chief Pernice reported he checked with Corry and Warren police concerning recent golf scramble fundraising and said Corry reported approximately $16,000 raised while Warren reported $18,000–$20,000; he asked council to follow up with the UC Country Club to confirm their highest fundraising amounts for scrambles. For the French Creek Festival, the chief said Erie County Detectives will fund overtime and supply 2–3 officers from the Erie County Courthouse to supplement coverage; he also has requested additional support from Corry PSP but had not yet received a response.
On personnel requirements, Chief Pernice stated he is completing a background check required by Civil Service rules and expects it to be finished by July 5, 2024. He said he has been making updates to department policies through Lexipol and is removing policies no longer needed; those changes are pending review by the borough Solicitor.
Mayor Robert Wolf had earlier thanked Chief Pernice and Officer Shelly for traffic enforcement and said the mayor had received positive public feedback about enforcement efforts.
The council did not vote on new police policies at the meeting; Chief Pernice indicated that the Solicitor’s review is the next step before formal adoption of policy changes.
