Union City council approves bridge grant application, disburses paving funds and awards Renaissance grants

The council approved disbursing liquid fuels funds to pay a Cross Paving invoice of $104,740.81, authorizing $92,130.00 from Liquid Fuels and $12,610.81 from the General Fund to cover the bill. Council also approved applying $15,625 in County Aid toward the Suit‑Kote seal coat payment for the same paving work.
Council approved the recommendation to fund four Renaissance grant applications totaling $17,675 from available Renaissance funds (leaving a $750.49 balance) and to carry two additional applications totaling $9,452.65 into the 2024–25 grant period. The borough also recorded receipt of a separate ECGRA Renaissance Grant award of $100,000 in the manager’s report.
Other financial motions approved unanimously included opening a new PLGIT Checking & Prime account and transferring approximately $140,000 from the Capital Equipment account to take advantage of higher interest rates, and authorizing the sale of removed playground equipment on Municibid.
Council approved several intergovernmental and materials actions related to road work: the borough will have its paving millings ground by Union Township (which will track usage), and council approved providing 2–3 loads of millings to the American Legion ballfield. Two tax‑exoneration resolutions were passed for properties purchased by the Erie County Land Bank (11 Maple Street and 48 Atlantic Street).
The meeting adjourned at 7:21 p.m.; a subsequent executive session to discuss personnel and contracts was held without action.
