North Branford — The town council appointed Scott Nichols as North Branford’s town manager effective July 1, 2026, approving a $160,000 annual salary and waiving the charter residency requirement.
Deputy Mayor McMillan moved to appoint Nichols; Counselor Mace seconded the motion. The motion passed on a voice vote in which one member opposed and one abstained. Council noted the hiring followed a search process that began in February and included interviews conducted by a search committee.
Scott Nichols, present in the audience, thanked the council for the appointment and praised the search process. Nichols acknowledged Acting Town Manager Rory Burke for his service over the previous six months and said he looks forward to working with department heads, boards and commissions to serve North Branford residents.
Councilors noted that appointment details — including the written agreement and attorney review — will be finalized by the town manager’s office and town attorney as appropriate.
