At its June 15 meeting the North Providence School Committee approved multiple contracts, policies and routine agenda items in a set of largely noncontroversial votes.
Items approved without substantive discussion included: an MOA regarding non-certified employees; a trust life insurance plan and membership participation agreement (the district has separated life-insurance provision from the town); a new student cell-phone policy intended to comply with an upcoming state law restricting phone use during instructional time; an updated Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy and protocol; the athletic equipment and uniforms bid; and a Birwood Middle School dance agreement with 12 Acres for June 5, 2027. The committee also approved the bills list and a use-of-property request.
A Chartwells food service contract was presented; the administration said RIDE (Rhode Island Department of Education) awarded a statewide contract to Chartwells and that the district will review state terms and legal counsel input before finalizing the local contract.
Motions for these consent and business items were moved, seconded and carried with routine roll call language recorded in the transcript as 'All those in favor? Opposed? Motion carries.' The transcript shows no recorded roll-call tallies for these consent items.
