North Providence honors interim principals as Greystone transitions to Wood Haven Elementary

The North Providence School Committee on June 15 recognized interim co-principals Lorie D. Simone and Lorraine Moshella for their service leading Greystone Elementary through construction and the district’s upcoming transition to Wood Haven Elementary.

The superintendent read a committee citation thanking the two educators ‘‘for your dedication and loyalty in service to the North Providence public schools’’ and congratulated them on their roles during a challenging building transition. Both Simone and Moshella came forward to accept the citation and offered brief remarks thanking colleagues, family and the community for support.

Simone described the past four years as ‘‘quite a ride’’ and noted her long history in the district, including serving as a virtual kindergarten teacher during COVID and mentoring other principals. Moshella and Simone were praised by the administration for stepping in after the midyear departure of a previous principal and for helping the district manage daily operations while a new school was built.

The committee’s recognition highlighted the two principals’ roles keeping school operations stable during construction, managing community expectations about the new building and supporting teachers and students through the change. The citation states Greystone will soon be Wood Haven Elementary School and extends the committee’s best wishes for future success.

The committee invited the honorees to remain for the meeting; no formal action related to the recognition was required.
