Woodbridge Traffic Authority approves deer‑crossing signs, extends no‑parking zone and seeks no‑pass zone on Litchfield Turnpike

After adjourning the police commission on June 15, members of the Woodbridge Traffic Authority took up three traffic matters and a speed‑limit request.

The Authority approved placing state‑standard deer‑crossing signs on Clark Road near house number 15 after a resident reported frequent deer and multiple deer‑vehicle strikes in that area. Members asked staff to check accident reports for recorded deer strikes to support placement.

On North Peace Road near the high school, the Authority approved extending temporary no‑parking signage roughly 300 feet down the road (three to four additional signs) to prevent the overflow parking that has caused one‑lane bottlenecks during large events; public works will install the signs and the cost will be covered by department or public works budgets as appropriate.

The department has also requested that the state remove a short passing zone on Litchfield Turnpike near 1860 Litchfield Turnpike and repaint the area as a double yellow centerline during upcoming repaving; the Authority endorsed the request and will await the state’s response tied to timing for repaving and repainting.

Finally, the Authority discussed a resident request to reduce a short 35‑mph segment on Johnson Road to 25 mph (to align with adjacent sections) after a speed survey showed most drivers average about 35 mph; members agreed to pursue the reduction through the formal approval process.

All four traffic actions were moved and approved by the Authority.
