At the June 15 meeting the police chief announced that Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro presented the Town of Woodbridge with a federal grant of $1,034,487 intended to fund a new emergency operations center (EOC).
"The center will allow our police department, fire department, EMS and emergency management teams to coordinate faster, communicate better, and respond more effectively," the chief told commissioners, adding that while the town accepted a ceremonial check the department is awaiting formal grant documentation and FEMA guidance on allowable uses and reporting conditions.
Commissioners emphasized that they want assurances the funds are earmarked for the EOC and not deposited into the general fund without restriction. Finance staff and the chief said they will follow up with FEMA and report conditions and timelines back to the commission.
Separately, the police building committee reported it has shortlisted architect proposals, interviewed candidates and narrowed the list to two firms; additional interviews are scheduled for June 24 with a target to have a contract in place within three to four weeks. Committee members said staff, sergeants and other users will be engaged during the planning phase to ensure operational needs (workstations, screens, locker room access and charging points) are included in design requirements.
Next steps: the town will await FEMA’s grant terms and the building committee will return with a recommended architect and contract timeline.
