Hyannis Area Schools board approves $267,486.58 in disbursements, OKs staff gift cards

The Hyannis Area Schools Board of Education on Nov. 11 approved its agenda and consent agenda, including $267,486.58 in general fund disbursements, and authorized purchase of gift cards for staff.

President Justin Vinton opened the regular meeting at 5:00 p.m. and noted the Open Meetings Act was posted. A motion by board member Rodney Boots, seconded by board member Kevin Anderson, approved the agenda. Chris Gentry was recorded absent from the roll call.

The board then approved the consent agenda on a motion by Clint Taylor and a second from Chris Cover. The consent items included the Oct. 14, 2024 board minutes and disbursements comprising the general fund total of $267,486.58; activity fund transfers of $16,546.29; lunch fund transfers of $16,667.59; and special building fund disbursements of $18,071.60. The consent motion passed with Vinton, Boots, Anderson, Cover and Taylor voting aye; Gentry was absent.

Superintendent Travis Hawk reported the district’s 2023–24 audit was completed by Dana Cole of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and staff are soliciting quotes for a passenger van to support district transportation needs. The board did not take a purchasing action on the vehicle at this meeting.

The board also approved a motion by Kevin Anderson, seconded by Clint Taylor, to purchase 36 gift cards at $30 each from Sandhill Oil and Legacy Cooperative to distribute as Christmas gifts to faculty and staff. That motion passed with the same voting pattern as prior motions (Gentry absent).

The meeting record includes a detailed ledger of payroll, benefits, vendor invoices and reimbursements that comprise the general fund total, with individual line items listed in the minutes. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. President Vinton adjourned the meeting at 5:31 p.m.
