Bryan ISD adopts five-year instructional strategic plan developed with Texas Strategic Leadership

The Bryan Independent School District board approved a draft five-year instructional strategic plan developed in partnership with the Texas Strategic Leadership (TSL) program, a TEA-linked initiative that helps districts align practice to the Effective District Framework.

Presenter Dr. Barbarie Bar described the plan as a multi-year, living document that begins with intended student outcomes and works backward to define daily student experiences, campus systems and district governance. The plan identifies three strategic priorities: improving the student academic experience, building instructional leadership and capacity, and aligning talent with finance to attract and retain high-quality staff. Dr. Bar said the district was one of two in the region selected for TSL this year and called the partnership "a real honor" that included classroom walks and stakeholder input.

Board members discussed examples from the plan (for instance, building "print-rich" classroom environments and establishing non-negotiable classroom practices) and noted that region staff supported development of performance-management systems to track leading indicators. The plan lays out year-one actions (academic plan development), year-two items (performance-management systems) and subsequent monitoring/reporting to the board.

The board approved the instructional strategic plan and will receive formative and summative reporting on implementation and metrics as the multi-year work proceeds.

Next steps: cabinet and Region 6 will support the district in building academic-performance dashboards and annual performance reporting to the board.
