Tumwater pushes county to clarify homeless services spending; seeks answers from Regional Housing Council

Tumwater council members pressed for clarity and accountability on regional homeless services spending at the June 16 meeting, and city leaders said they had asked county officials to return a contract to the Regional Housing Council (RHC) for additional questions and analysis.
Administrator Simmons and Mayor Leetta Dhoff reported attending a meeting with the Board of County Commissioners where they requested more time for analysis and additional answers to a list of outstanding questions provided by the council. Simmons said the county’s board voted to support the request to allow further analysis, questions and discussion before funds are distributed to local nonprofits.
Council members — including Joan and Council Member Kathy — described this as a long-running issue and said they want to know what percentage of regional funds are coming back to Tumwater and how those funds are being used locally. One council member framed the ask succinctly: before additional regional investments are made, Tumwater needs data on contributions and returns to ensure accountability.
The council requested staff follow up and said they will circle back with county and RHC representatives; administrators said the RHC contract can be reconsidered and that the county can schedule the item for further review.
