Board announces Dr. Mark Wenzel as next Enumclaw School District superintendent

The Enumclaw School District board announced on May 18 that it has selected Dr. Mark Wenzel as the district’s next superintendent following a multi‑month search process that included community forums, surveys and finalist campus visits.

Chair opened the meeting by thanking staff and community members for their involvement in the search and said the board was “really excited to have Doctor Mark Wenzel to be our next superintendent of the district.” The chair credited extensive community input — including surveys and forums and time for finalists to spend a full day on campus — as central to the board’s decision.

Director Fisher, who said she read “literally hundreds of responses,” described the public feedback as invaluable. “Those comments truly drove our decision,” Fisher said, praising the volume and substance of community responses the board received during the process.

Superintendent Jill Burns also addressed the board, thanking trustees for their investment of time and noting that students participated in interviewing candidates. Burns presented a recognition to outgoing student representative Micaiah, thanking her for two years of service and noting students’ role in the finalist review and school visits.
