Salem Township Board of Supervisors on July 17 approved Resolution 19-2024 to enter an intergovernmental cooperation agreement with the Franklin Township Municipal Sanitary Authority to correct grade 4 and 5 defects in the township’s public sewer lines in the Cloverleaf area, a requirement of a Consent Order with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Supervisor Kerry Jobe said FTMSA will perform the 26 repairs in-house and that the remaining work is expected to cost about $109,000, which will be paid from remaining grant funds.
The board also approved month-end payments across multiple funds totaling $104,243.13 (General Fund $39,868.06; Payroll $48,031.04; Sewage $4,727.00; Liquid Fuels $4,710.77; Streetlights $395.06; Machinery $1,829.95; Fire $3,039.75; Park Initiative $1,028.00; Act 13 $613.50). Resident Tom Ridella questioned duplicate fuel charges on the bill list; the board said the Export Fuel vendor had two separate invoices and Five Points reflected an accumulation of charges from a prior year.
Other administrative actions approved unanimously (Ken Trumbetta was absent for all votes) included a fireworks-display permit for the Slickville Volunteer Fire Department with permit fees waived subject to conditions, hiring Arlene Rosatti as a consultant at $25 per hour, and authorization to prepare and advertise an ordinance to add several township roads to the official list of weight-restricted roads (Helen Drive T741; Stony Springs Road T794; Hillview Drive T619; Long Plan Road T674; Lake Drive T676; Walters Road T933).
Kerry Jobe said cameraing of sewer lines was previously paid for by the grant and that the grant will cover the contractor work necessary to correct defects identified during that inspection. Solicitor Atty. Falatovich participated in the discussion and the motions. The board adjourned at 8:11 p.m.; it set the next regular meeting for Aug. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
