The Ashley Board of Trustees voted June 15 to authorize Superintendent Miss How to execute a contract with Exhibit Concepts for the design, fabrication and installation of themed, interactive exhibits at the district’s new early childhood center.
Kimberly Williams, sales director for Exhibit Concepts, told the board the company will deliver a turnkey package — conceptual design, fabrication at its Dayton, Ohio facility and on‑site installation — and provide professional development before and after installation. The scope presented to the board covered 18 classrooms and four special education rooms; Williams said the firm had surveyed local sites in CORSICANA to incorporate community landmarks into the designs.
A board member moved to approve the contract and to authorize the superintendent to execute all necessary contract documents; the motion was seconded and the board voted verbally in favor. The transcript records the motion and a verbal vote but does not include a roll‑call tally.
Also on the consent/ action items, the board approved proposed revisions to the district’s District of Innovation plan. Scott, a district staff presenter, summarized changes that remove a parent‑notification exemption (a consequence of recent Texas law), preserve certain local grievance procedures while seeking flexibility on timelines (references to BGBA, FNG and GF were cited), and retain local processes for instructional‑materials review without requiring full website posting. A motion to adopt the revisions passed after a second.
The board approved the 2026–27 teacher appraisal calendar (TTS/TAS appraisal calendar) by motion and second. A separate, procedural motion designated Melissa Castillo as the district’s TASB delegate and Kathy Branch as alternate; a prior incorrect nomination was corrected on the floor before the vote.
During the meeting the board also reviewed the preliminary 2026–27 budget numbers presented by district finance staff. The presentation noted a projected average daily attendance (ADA) figure of 5,294 and, using conservative expense assumptions, a preliminary projected deficit of about $1.45 million pending final property valuations and state funding updates.
The board adjourned to closed session under the cited statute at the end of the meeting.
