Sewer project over half complete; four homeowners still need easements, officials say

The City of West Fork's sewer construction is well underway, with the contractor reporting more than 60% of main sewer lines installed and multiple main roads nearly complete.

Nick, reporting for the contractor team, estimated “definitely more than 60%, maybe two-thirds, almost three-quarters” of the main sewer lines are in place and said crews have been improving cleanup and sweeping gravel to restore roadways (Nick, SEG 349-419). He said service tie-ins may begin as early as next month as the contractor finishes main-line work.

City staff also said four homeowners have not yet signed required easements needed for their properties to tie into the new sewer system. Treasurer Christie said the city has drafted a letter warning those homeowners that when the system turns over, their existing on-site sewer systems may no longer work and the homeowner would become responsible for connection costs if they delay signing (SEG 421-433).

Nick said the contractor performed preconstruction drone video to document existing curb damage so the contractor will not be required to repair damage that existed before construction; the contractor will replace items it damages in the course of work. City staff and council members said they have been satisfied with contractor progress and are monitoring schedule and quality as weather turns colder.

Separately, the council heard that the city is still awaiting delivery of a sewer meter and a separate sewer pump that are needed for testing and system operations; Christie said the meter was expected to arrive this week for bench testing (SEG 499-521). No formal action was taken at the meeting; staff said they will continue outreach to property owners to obtain the easements and proceed with connections once easements are secured.
