The McCrory City Council authorized staff to apply for a ballpark improvement grant after reviewing bids totaling $36,172.77 for work at Elizabeth Swanson Park.
Parks representative Thomas Kendrick told the council he received two bids: Smokey Roberts quoted $16,500 to pour concrete (including under the bleachers) and Rainey Electronics quoted $19,672.77 for three new scoreboards. Council member Lou Dallas moved to apply for the grant using the combined total and Council member Ronnie Massanelli seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Thomas Kendrick said the concrete improvement would abut the school’s portion of the field and he would contact Mr. Waymire to ask whether the school would participate in the concrete cost. No agreement with the school was recorded; Thomas Kendrick said no work would proceed until the city receives grant approval.
The council did not specify the grant source in the transcript. If the grant is awarded, the council and staff will return with formal acceptance and any necessary contract awards.
