McCrory council adopts 2024 city budget, sets paving plans in motion

The McCrory City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2024-01, approving the city budget for Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2024, during its Aug. 12 meeting with Mayor Jackson presiding.
Council member Dallas moved to adopt the resolution and Council member Austin seconded. A roll-call vote was taken and all members voted in favor, carrying the motion to appropriate funds for the coming fiscal year.
The budget adoption will allow the city to proceed with planned capital and operating items identified by staff. Mayor Jackson told the council the city received $30,000 from the county for the "World Wide" project and reported the city has a new truck designated for recycling and the street department.
The council also directed staff to begin compiling a complete list of paving needs to submit to the Highway Department for a street-repair grant in September. Officials said the submission will be prepared during the next weeks so the city can be considered for grant-funded paving projects.
In other business tied to city spending, the council unanimously approved a motion to accept bids for electrical and cooling work at the planned dog pound; Mayor Jackson will accept bids at his office through 5:00 p.m. on Sept. 9. Council member Austin made the motion to open the bid process and Council member Massanelli seconded.
The council later voted to pay the city’s bills before adjourning at 8:38 p.m.
