EDA hears easement corrections update on Kid’s Haven and notes Wendy’s permit timeline

During the May 13 meeting, Monticello EDA staff provided updates on several planning and project matters including the Kid’s Haven development and the Wendy’s conditional use permit.
Executive Director Jim Thares reported that staff had identified historical easement and platting errors affecting the Kid’s Haven project and described two legally compliant alternatives to correct trunk and roadway access; he said staff continue to work with the applicant and the applicant’s lender as necessary to address the corrective steps. The EDA discussion indicated staff will pursue corrective filings and options within the City's authority and will return with further updates as those steps progress.
Angela Schumann briefed the EDA on Planning Commission outcomes and additional routine items including wetland delineation and building permit updates. She also said the Wendy’s conditional use permit extension is set to expire in September 2026 and that potential revocation actions may proceed after that point if warranted.
The updates were delivered as part of the Economic Development Manager’s report; no formal action was taken on Kid’s Haven or on Wendy’s at the meeting.
