The West Fork City Council approved a memorandum of understanding with the West Fork Public Schools to fund a school resource officer (SRO) on a flat-fee basis rather than as a percentage of salary.
City staff said the district previously reimbursed a percentage of the officer’s salary, which produced variable reimbursements when officers were absent or replaced. Chief Halber explained the change: "all we're trying to do is basically take it out of a percentage of salary and into here's a flat fee," and said the flat figure will preserve coverage metrics while simplifying reimbursement. The council heard the city currently receives roughly $43,250 under the older arrangement; council approved a flat fee of about $47,000 for 2025 with a planned increase to $51,000 in 2026.
Council approved the 2025–26 MOU by voice vote; the motion carried. Staff noted the flat rate still includes a portion of benefits and is intended to stabilize annual billing between the city and school district.
