The McCrory City Council on Sept. 9 passed a resolution tied to an approved police vehicle grant and authorized transferring funds for the new vehicle, which was reported to cost $31,734. Council specified that most of the purchase will come from the Police Maintenance fund with the remainder from the general fund.
Clerk Kendrick read the resolution; Council member Reynolds moved to adopt it and Council member Massanelli seconded. After a roll-call vote the resolution passed. Council later approved a separate motion to transfer funds to complete the purchase.
Chief Bevills briefed the council on department activity: August court collections totaled $17,399; the department handled about 128 misdemeanors, five drug-related cases and four felony warrants. Chief Bevills said Officer Golden is on leave and that part-time Officer McCoy has taken a full-time job in Jacksonville, reducing part-time availability. The department will begin looking for a replacement vehicle and is accepting officer applications. Drug take-back day is scheduled for Oct. 26; residents may also drop medications at the City Hall drop box on the north wall at any time.
No vote tallies with individual names were recorded in the transcript; motions were reported as unanimous where roll call was requested.
