McCrory council approves application for 50/50 ballpark grant

McCrory’s City Council voted Sept. 9 to apply for a 50/50 matching grant through Natural Resources to fund improvements at the municipal ballpark. The grant application, capped at $15,000, was approved on the condition it imposes no restrictions on the city.
Thomas Kendrick told the council the park needs concrete under the bleachers and dugouts, another batting cage and sealing and crack-filling of the walking trails to prevent grass intrusion. Council member Massanelli moved to apply for the grant and Council member Austin seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The council asked Kendrick to provide cost estimates at the next meeting. If the grant is awarded, the city would be responsible for half the final cost under the 50/50 match requirement. The council did not specify which department would administer the project if funded.
