The Austin City Council on June 15 approved a resolution to appoint Dave Unmock as interim city administrator, effective upon execution of the agreement and expected to run at least through Sept. 25, 2026. Council approved the action unanimously in a 5-0 recorded vote.
Staff said Unmock has extensive experience assisting cities and counties in transitional administration roles and had met informally with council and staff. The council recorded support for the interim appointment and said the hire was intended to provide leadership and ensure continuity while the city conducts a search for a permanent administrator.
What happens next: With the interim administrator in place, council members said they expect steadier communication and leadership during the transition period.
