Chairperson Mike Huey opened a discussion about potentially changing the format and timing of the Manufacturer’s Appreciation event to increase relevance and attendance.
Vice Chair Rob Stark said he had spoken with Della Ludwig at the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development and that the Central Minnesota Manufacturers Association (CMMA) is willing to partner with the IEDC on the event. Stark reported industry feedback that organizers should allow more advance notice to secure tours and resources and recommended avoiding Fridays, since some manufacturers hold all‑employee meetings on certain weekdays.
Committee members reported specific offers of support: UMC offered full collaborative support and sponsorship and suggested an alternate weekday; local companies Jensen Precision Machining and Aroplax Corporation were noted as engaged with the idea. Members said the event should emphasize manufacturer recognition rather than school presentations, and several recommended including county or state representatives to provide information on industrial support programs. Stark suggested inviting a presentation such as the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Red Tape Reduction program to highlight funding and resource connections.
Several committee members also expressed support for involving Monticello High School Principal Lori Hanson in a phased role to sustain reciprocal, long‑term community impacts while preserving the event’s focus on manufacturers.
Next steps discussed included pursuing partnerships with CMMA and UMC, confirming schedules to avoid conflicts with employer meeting days, and coordinating any invited agency presentations to align with local business needs.
