Carey council unanimously adopts emergency prosecutor agreement and fast‑tracks Safe Routes sidewalk project

On Jan. 5 the Village of Carey council unanimously approved emergency measures to streamline prosecution services and to keep a Safe Routes to School sidewalk project on schedule.
Solicitor Gucker explained the proposed resolution would authorize the mayor to sign an agreement with the City Prosecutor’s Office of Upper Sandusky to prosecute certain municipal cases on the village’s behalf. Councilmember Stephanie Wade moved to suspend the three‑reading requirement; the motion passed 5–0. Council then moved to declare an emergency and adopt Resolution No. 2026‑1; the motions passed by unanimous roll call.
Separately, council considered an ODOT LPA/LET Project Agreement for a Safe Routes to School sidewalk project covering South Patterson Street and Crabapple, with work slated to begin in summer 2026. Council suspended rules, declared an emergency to avoid schedule delays, and adopted Ordinance No. 2026‑3 by unanimous roll call.
All votes on these measures were unanimous: Wade, Conley, Bleam, Hernandez, and Puchta voted yes on suspending readings, declaring emergencies, and adopting the items. Solicitor Gucker told council the prosecutor agreement permits Upper Sandusky’s prosecutor to handle certain municipal prosecutions for Carey; council did not record any dissent during the emergency adoptions.
