Council approves $429,741 contract to add air conditioning at Casa Grande Animal Care and Adoption Center

The presenter said Core Construction originally built the facility in 2009 and that evaporative coolers were installed at that time. Staff and frequent visitors had raised concerns about high temperatures in the kennel area during hot months; staff recommended the upgrade to air conditioning to improve conditions for animals and employees. Staff added that about $90,000 of the GMP is for the AC units themselves and that construction would be scheduled for fall to avoid disconnecting existing coolers in the summer heat.
A resident (Sean) who had visited the facility thanked staff for meeting and said he supported approval of air conditioning and planned to vote for the resolution. Councilmembers noted volunteers who work at the shelter and said the upgrades would benefit animals and staff.
The council approved Resolution 5926 authorizing the contract, expenditure of public funds and execution of agreements by the city manager in a unanimous roll call vote.
