East Rutherford introduces ordinances banning data centers in local zoning, tightening parking and adding temporary FIFA rules

Ordinance 2026‑12 proposes an amendment to Chapter 389 (Zoning) to confirm that data centers are prohibited uses/structures in all borough zoning districts except those located within the jurisdiction of the Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission. Ordinance 2026‑13 would amend Chapter 285 (Parking) to prohibit parking on highways. Ordinance 2026‑14 is a temporary ordinance regulating certain conduct and activities in the borough during the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Each ordinance was moved and seconded for first reading (mover Councilman Segalini in at least one instance, with Councilman Lorusso seconding other items) and the roll call for introduction recorded that all present voted aye. Under the council's procedure, first reading and introduction now trigger public notice and subsequent hearings before final adoption can occur.
