East Rutherford council authorizes police participation in federal 1033 equipment program for 2026

Resolution #86 permits the department to request and acquire surplus Department of Defense property designated as "DEMIL A" (non‑controlled items such as office furniture, generators, non‑military vehicles, PPE, tools, and other non‑military‑use equipment) and authorizes requests for controlled "DEMIL B through Q" items if they become available. The resolution, included in the consent agenda that passed by roll call, requires the police department to develop and implement training and maintenance plans and to provide a quarterly accounting of any property obtained through the program that will be available to the public upon request.
The minutes note that participation and any property requests authorized by the resolution terminate on December 31, 2026. The resolution also notes that municipalities are responsible for costs associated with delivery, maintenance, fueling and specialized training for any acquired property. The consent agenda motion was moved by Councilman Antonio Segalini and seconded by Councilman Daniel Alvarez; the full consent agenda passed by vote of the governing body, with only one separate 'no' recorded later on a different resolution (Resolution #103).
