Wareham Select Board approves appointments, $35,000 library donation and a secondhand-dealer license

The Wareham Select Board on June 16 approved a slate of appointments and reappointments to local boards and accepted donations to town accounts, while approving a pending business license application.
The board unanimously appointed Annette Grady as an associate member of the Council on Aging with a term to expire June 30, 2027; Grady described prior Council on Aging experience and volunteer work during her introduction. The board also approved a secondhand-dealer license application from Anna Nathan for a used clothing and small housewares store at 3065 Cranberry Highway, across from Harbor Freight, subject to payment of fees, completion of paperwork and a satisfactory inspection as required under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 140 §54.
The board accepted a $35,000 donation from the Wareham Library Foundation, Inc. to the Wareham Free Library. The gift was allocated in the motion as $25,000 for part-time library staff salaries and $10,000 to purchase e-books and e-audio. The board also accepted a $40 donation from Joanne Long to the Council on Aging for general use.
A series of routine reappointments to town boards and committees were approved with staggered terms through 2027–2029. One nomination drew opposition: a motion to appoint Richard Simple to the Zoning Board of Appeals failed on the board vote.
The meeting included a certificate presentation honoring Michael A. Baptist Sr. for 37 years of service on the Wareham Planning Board.
Several items of routine business, including approval of minutes, were also completed; the board adjourned after the scheduled agenda.
