Planning Commission recommends special-use permit for Stock Tank liquor store relocation

Ben Rhodess, senior planner, presented a special-use permit (SU25-03) to allow a retail control beverage sales use—Stock Tank liquor store—to relocate into a new building at 350 North Progress within a C2 zone. Rhodess said the use is existing and the request is triggered because the new building requires a special-use permit to occupy that zoning district. Staff described screening proposed on the west side of the lot to protect views from an adjacent single-family home and concluded the use is compatible with surrounding commercial and regional land uses.
There were no audience questions or comments on the item. A motion to forward SU25-03 to the board with a recommendation for approval was moved and seconded; the roll-call vote was unanimous (McKenna; Sutton; Renard; K. Williams; T. Williams; Sally — all yes). The commission noted SU25-03 is scheduled to go before the city board on Aug. 5, 2025 for final consideration.
Staff said the proposal would permit the existing liquor store to vacate its current shopping-center location and occupy a permanent site in the new building pending board approval.
