New Oldtown councilors and school board members sworn in; council elects leadership

The Oldtown City Council held its organizational meeting Dec. 1 to swear in newly elected officials and choose council leadership for the coming year.
City Clerk Laura Instrom administered the oaths of office to Charlene Villio and Michael May, each sworn to serve as city councilors through December 2028. Instrom also administered oaths to Christina Lennon and Matthew Curtis, who took office as members of the RSU 34 school board with terms expiring December 2028.
Following the oath ceremonies, the council nominated and voted on leadership positions. Nominations for council president included Chris Bushore, Linda Mloud and Zach. The transcript records votes that resulted in Chris Bushore receiving the plurality of votes (three), Linda Mloud receiving two and Zach receiving one; the council announced Bushore would serve as council president. The council then elected Linda Mloud as vice president by a recorded 4–3 margin over Zach.
Council members presented a commemorative chair for outgoing council member Carol May, who was not in attendance; staff said Carol May expressed gratitude for years of service. With leadership in place, the council adopted its rules of order and a resolution establishing regular meeting times before moving on to regular agenda items.
The organizational meeting concluded and the council immediately called the regular Dec. 1 meeting to order.
