The Jourdanton City Council on April 6 approved a short-term option with the Nueces River Authority to secure up to 560.07 acre-feet per year of potential future potable water and took additional actions on park events, recreational licenses and infrastructure project acceptances.
The council approved the water option contract by motion of Councilmember Pamela Manning, seconded by Councilmember Karen Pesek. The option carries a fee of $27,376.22, to be paid in two installments (one at signing and one year later). Councilmember Katrina Wiatrek cast the sole negative vote; the council directed City Manager Debbie Molina to reserve the funds for the project.
Why it matters: Securing an option on a water supply is a forward-looking step for the city’s long-term potable water planning. The council heard presentations from Atascosa County Judge Weldon Cude, Texas House Representative Don McLaughlin and a representative of the Nueces River Authority before voting on the option.

Other council business: The council discussed possible termination of the Utility Operations Services Agreement with the Nueces River Authority and directed the City Manager on next steps but took no formal action. Mayor Pro Tem Chester Gonzales said the map for the 2025 Street Project is not yet finalized and staff will bring updates as available.
Public comments: During the hearing of residents, Shaiyan Yaws urged the council to consider a pollinator/bee and butterfly garden at Jourdanton City Park; Clarence Champion reported receiving a stop-work order, said he was disrespected by a city employee and presented a police camera video of the incident; and Cynthia Salinas reported flooding and stagnant water at a Maple Street property, attributing it to inadequate drainage.
The meeting included routine staff reports from City Manager Debbie Molina and public-works staff about hydrant flushing, sewer-main replacements and grants, followed by council announcements about local events. The council recessed at 7:51 p.m., reconvened at 8:01 p.m., entered executive session at 8:12 p.m. and adjourned at 8:48 p.m.
