Councilmember Bill Middleton moved to table further action until the next regular meeting; Bill Medley seconded the motion and it passed with all in favor. Mayor Driver stated that "Vince Welty’s properties will be under a grace period until next month when a decision can be made."
The discussion clarified that commercial fire dues are not mandatory charges imposed automatically by state law but are an optional municipal fee mechanism; councilmembers signaled interest in reviewing the underlying ordinance before making a policy decision. The council did not adopt changes to the municipal code at the Feb. 19 meeting.
