Sulphur Springs council approves financials, equipment purchases and delays decision on commercial fire dues

The Sulphur Springs City Council on Feb. 19 approved routine financial and administrative items, authorized equipment purchases and delayed a decision on commercial fire dues after public comment.
Councilmember Bill Medley moved to accept the January financial report as presented; Jen Thurlo seconded and the motion passed with all in favor. The council also approved the Jan. 15 meeting minutes on a motion by Medley, seconded by Mike Larson.
Fire Chief Josh Greer reported monthly department activity and said the department had purchased new gas and carbon monoxide detectors. Greer told the council "The city's tornado siren isn't covered under the city's insurance" and that replacing it through a Branson company "will be $3,737.00." Councilmember Bill Middleton moved to accept the quote to replace the siren and Taylor Thompson seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Water staff member Nicky presented a Municipal Impact website service that works with municipalities. The city attorney said the vendor "doesn't offer a contract because it's a month-by-month agreement that can be cancelled at any time." Council approved subscribing to the service on a motion by Bill Medley, seconded by Taylor Thompson.
The council addressed an administrative record issue for Shift4 equipment, noting a contract apparently originating in 2019. Bill Middleton moved to add Michael Driver and Carolyn Hazzard as authorized signers for the related accounts; Jen Thurlo seconded and the motion passed.
Several commission and department updates followed: Recorder/Treasurer Carrie said the 2025 water audit returned positive reviews with no major findings; the library's annual Souper fundraiser is set for Feb. 28, and park commissioners reported the new walking trail is starting and may include an asphalt parking pad near Patterson Bridge.
