Guilderland board approves warrants, personnel appointments and permit waiver; resident raises battery storage concerns

At its June 2, 2026 meeting, the Guilderland Town Board approved several routine administrative items by unanimous roll call.
The board approved the minutes of the May 19, 2026 regular meeting and authorized the Town Supervisor and Town Clerk to sign a Department of Water & Wastewater Management collector's warrant in the amount of $613,843.77. The board also voted to waive the building permit for repairs to fire damage at 6203 Johnston Road following a recommendation from the Chief Building & Zoning Inspector.
Personnel actions approved included appointments of Ted Kelly and Nicole Kuehnert as laborers in the Parks & Recreation Department (motion by Councilman Crawford; second by Councilman McDonald) and the appointment of Shannon Litvin, Esq., as Assistant Town Attorney to serve as prosecutor in the Town Justice Court (motion by Councilman Crawford; second by Councilwoman Beedle). The board also approved cancelling the September 1, 2026 Town Board meeting. All motions recorded unanimous Aye votes from Councilman Crawford, Councilwoman Beedle, Councilman Santos, Councilman McDonald and Supervisor Peter Barber.
During public comment, Robyn Gray returned to speak about Local Law No. 1-2026 (Battery Energy Storage Systems), expressing concern that a 600 kW system size may be too large and questioned local firefighting capacity to respond to incidents involving battery systems.
The board adjourned the meeting at 7:44 p.m.
