Sulphur Springs council ends Shift4 contract and approves Square for in-office receipts

The Sulphur Springs City Council voted unanimously to end the city’s contract with payment processor Shift4 and to adopt Square for in-office receipt printing. Nicky, representing the water department, told the council the city would save money by terminating the Shift4 contract immediately rather than keeping it until the scheduled end of the agreement. Taylor Thompson moved to terminate the contract; Bill Middleton seconded and the motion passed with all members present voting in favor.
After that vote, Nicky presented Square as a replacement system for printing receipts in the city office. Wes Hendren moved to adopt Square, and Taylor Thompson seconded. Councilmember Bill Middleton asked that the city consider financing the purchase of any necessary hardware “as long as there was no interest,” a condition the council asked staff to explore. The motion to proceed with Square passed unanimously.
The council recorded the motions and votes during the April 16 meeting. The water department will work with city staff on purchase and implementation steps, including any financing arrangements the council requested.
