Thompson School HVAC and roof work moves from demo to construction; startup targeted end of July

Contractor representatives from BBD updated the Brush School District board on the Thompson School (TPS) HVAC and roofing project, reporting that the work has moved from the demolition phase into active construction and that the project remains on schedule.
Travis, a BBD representative, said the HVAC scope moved into construction after a period of prefabrication and targeted nights/weekend work while school was in session. He reported that most HVAC units were removed from ceilings and roofs, a new pipe rack was installed on the north side of the school to carry pipes to a new chiller, and concrete pours were completed in late spring. Roofing work across multiple roofing systems (EPDM, TPO and standing seam) was in progress; some cap metal flashings and rooftop tie-ins that require coordination with the HVAC scope remained to be completed.
Schedule highlights noted to the board included an equipment start-up date of July 31 and final inspections targeted for August 3 to allow the building to be ready when students return. Travis also reported delivery and installation windows for operable windows (delivery date 6/26) and for the Beaver Valley windows (delivery date 7/17). Substantial-completion milestones for discrete change orders were provided: a near-term roof completion target (6/30) for roofing items and later dates for CO #1 and CO #2 work contingent on material delivery and coordination.
Board members were invited to a site walk on June 25 at noon to view progress. Superintendent Marshia Cody and staff noted careful coordination to avoid roofing work during school hours and thanked contractors for accommodations that prioritized student safety and continuity of operations.
What’s next: Contractors will continue rooftop and window installations into July; staff will coordinate final inspections and follow up with the board at subsequent meetings or site walk reports.
