The Brush School District No. Re-2 (Brush) Board of Education took several routine and substantive actions May 4, 2026, approving personnel reports, adopting retiree contract templates, updating the district salary schedule for 2026–27, approving minor contract amendments for facilities work, and adopting a package of policy changes.
Personnel and compensation: The board approved two personnel reports and an updated staff list for the 2026–27 school year. Board member Bryson Miller stated he would abstain on the second personnel report because it included his spouse; the remainder of the board voted to approve. The board also adopted four retiree contract templates for immediate administrative use and approved the consolidated 2026–27 salary schedule, which incorporates previously board-approved salary items and adds a $180-per-day substitute pay rate.
Stipends and pay schedule changes: Staff described adjustments to stipend listings—moving Knowledge Bowl and Brain Bowl to the activities/athletics schedule so those positions can be posted and advertised—and proposed a 4% oversight stipend for directors of maintenance overseeing capital projects. The board approved the updated salary/stipend structure as presented.
Facilities and contracts: The board approved an amendment to the previously authorized Ponder contract for gym-floor refinishing, increasing the total by $700 to $44,970 to align with the corrected invoice and to authorize payment. The Beaver Valley Elementary window replacement contract was revised on the floor to replace laminated aluminum windows with tempered-glass aluminum windows, lowering the contract to $151,720.70 (about $20,000 less than previously approved). Staff said a separate change order for Thompson roofing and small building restoration will be considered at the May 18 meeting.
Policies and governance: The board adopted the policy changes compiled in Exhibit A (Policy Action Summary, May 4, 2026), which included final approvals, repeals and advances to third reading for numerous G (personnel) and J (student) policies. Staff walked the board through several policy clarifications tied to reemployment of retirees, leave accruals, grievance procedures, and open-enrollment criteria. Members discussed allowing a one-time grace period for certain lane-advancement credit-hour submissions and clarified implementation steps for federal program oversight returned from an external administrator.
Procedural notes: Earlier in the meeting the board entered an executive session pursuant to a statute cited in the record for legal advice concerning PAR retirement issues and employment contract matters; legal counsel subsequently certified the executive session was appropriate. The meeting adjourned at about 8:12 p.m.
What’s next: Several items will return for ministerial follow-up (e.g., May 18 agenda for roofing change orders and an emergency approval related to separation benefits), and administration will implement the salary, stipend and policy changes in personnel and payroll systems.
