Castine Selectboard approves warrants, licenses and fire-department grant applications; board authorizes housing-ordinance grant application

At the Feb. 17 meeting the Selectboard approved the General Fund Warrant for $133,434.73 and the Water Warrant for $38,622.88 (motions by Roberta Boczkiewicz; second by Amy Gutow; votes 2-0). Amy Gutow pointed out line items including a $6,000 deposit to Central Maine Pyrotechnics, $10,811.65 to Lanpher for snow removal and $9,816 to Shinberg Fire Station OPM.

The board approved multiple sets of minutes and granted the Innkeepers/Tavernkeepers/Lodging Houses license to the Pentagoet Inn and a Mobile Vending Unit permit to The Moody Dog for MMA graduation weekend (all motions approved 2-0).

The Selectboard authorized the Fire Department to apply for the MSA Globe Gear Giveaway, a program that has donated more than $2 million in gear historically and provides turnout gear and helmets to volunteer departments; the board also authorized applying for the Anheuser-Busch Emergency Drinking Water Grant. Fire Chief Randy Stearns said Castine Fire & Rescue Department has not applied for the AB water grant before and "if awarded CFRD could receive around 2500 cans of drinking water" to share with surrounding departments. Both grant applications require no local match and the board voted to approve the department applying.

The board also approved applying for a Housing Opportunity Program Municipal Ordinance Development Grant to help the town make ordinance changes required by ADU-related laws; Derik Goodine said the town previously used $6,000 of a $10,000 grant to address LD2003-related requirements.

All motions relating to warrants, licenses and grant applications were approved with votes recorded as 2-0 by the two board members present.
