At the June 3 work session, staff briefed the Milford City Council on a state-led proposal to establish a roughly 700‑mile trail connecting seven western Utah counties and on a request for a municipal letter of support.
Staff said the project includes wayfinding kiosks and trail segments across Washington, Iron, Beaver, (transcript: "Miller"), (transcript: "Duwab"), Tooele and Box Elder counties and that environmental work and preliminary proposals are now at a stage that could be proposed to approving authorities. Councilors raised concerns about the effect of increased off-highway-vehicle traffic on Milford’s quiet streets, parking near local trailheads and possible changes to local traffic and speed controls. One councilor asked to see maps showing how close proposed trail spurs would come to Milford and urged that the council notify residents.
Staff recommended public outreach during the open comment period (June 2–16) so Milford can collect resident input before deciding whether to provide a formal letter of support. Councilors generally favored sharing the proposal with the public, collecting feedback and postponing a formal endorsement until community views are known.
No motion or vote was taken; staff will post information and solicit comments during the public-comment window and report results back to the council.
